our esg journey
In the beginning, Anthophila Limited embarked on a business journey back in 2015, driven by the pursuit of profit and market expansion. Our focus was on procuring plastic waste from informal recycling sources and processing it for sale. However, the tides changed during the pandemic’s trying times. A moment of reflection led us to reevaluate our purpose and look at the grassroots communities that were the foundation of our resources. This introspection sparked a transformation that would shape our destiny.
Out of the challenges emerged an inspiring shift. In the face of adversity, we embraced the ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) framework and chose to evolve into something greater than just profit. Our purpose evolved into a for-profit social enterprise. This transformation was a result of thorough research, intense brainstorming, and engaging with communities at the heart of our mission. Thus, the “AEL Household Plastic Collection Project” was born.
This initiative resonated deeply with our core values, aligning seamlessly with six out of the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As we ventured into this path, we also embarked on a journey to combat one of the most persistent challenges in waste management – the formidable issue of hard-to-tackle plastic waste in Nigeria.
In 2022, we proudly unveiled our new identity as Anthophila Empire Limited, embodying our commitment to empowerment, sustainability, and positive change. Our operations are no longer just about profit; they’re about creating lasting impact. The journey has not been easy, but our passion fuels our resolve to make a difference in the lives of those we touch, the environment we cherish, and the communities we serve.
